Winning Tips
After watching preliminary videos, these are
some of the suggestions to improve your performance.
- Wear
a costume that shows up against a black backdrop. Bright
colors work great.
- Singers...sing
a song that shows off your range.
- Look
at the score sheet and do a song which let judges give you
the most points.
- Judges
like to see lots of energy in your performance.
- Remember
that the judges see you enter and exit the stage. Stay in
character and act professional at all times.
- Wear
appropriate stage make-up.
- Make
sure you can walk in the shoes you will be wearing on stage.
- Do
not play with your hair or jewelry on stage.
- Practice
holding a microphone.
- Know
who you are telling your story to and what type of image
you are portraying.
- Stay
focused!
- Watch
a video of your performance and critique yourself.
- Keep
your eyes open and do not look at the floor.
- Make
sure your costume is appropriate. For example, some songs are
good for formal dress and others may require a character costume.
- The
stage is 24 x 40 so make good use of the space you have available.
- Have
your own style. Trendy music is fun but make sure when you
perform the judges aren't comparing you to the original artist
who is popular right now.
- Take
deep breaths before you walk on stage.
- Smile
and have fun!
