How To Hold a Contest

PLEASE NOTE: Before requesting to sanction a contest, please be sure to carefully review the Preliminary Contest Rules for further clarification of complete regulations.

To register an event, a sanction from the Kentucky State Fair must be requested and received before the date of the contest.  No fee is charged for producing a sanctioned preliminary contest for the Coca-Cola Talent Classic.

The most important job of the chairperson of a sanctioned contest is the correct interpretation and communication of the rules to the participants. The three most difficult things we have to deal with at the State Fair are acts in the wrong category, acts which must be disqualified because they have broken a rule, and acts which could have done better if they had been given advice about changes.

In order for every young person to have a positive experience in this program we want to give them every opportunity to do their best.  We encourage chairpersons to give suggestions for changes and improvement before the State Fair. Contestants may make changes in their competition acts, even major changes, as long as it doesn't change the category. Our goal is to help them win. We also want contestants to know that it's best to do one thing well. Judges do not get to see excellence in any area if there are too many different talent elements packed into a three minute act.
