HOW TO HOST A PRELIMINARY

PLEASE NOTE: Before requesting to sanction a contest, please be sure to carefully review the Preliminary Contest Rules for further clarification of complete regulations.
To register an event, a sanction from the Kentucky State Fair must be requested and received before the date of the contest. No fee is charged for producing a sanctioned preliminary contest for the Coca-Cola Talent Classic.
The most important job of the chairperson of a sanctioned contest is the correct interpretation and communication of rules to participants. The three most common issues the State Fair encounters are acts that are in the wrong category, acts that must be disqualified because they have broken a rule, and acts that could have performed better if they had received more guidance.
The Kentucky State Fair wants to give every young person the opportunity to do their best so they have a positive experience. We encourage chairpersons to give suggestions for changes and improvements before the fair. Contestants may make changes in their competition acts, even major changes, as long as they don’t change the category. Our goal is to help them win.
Contestants should know it’s best to do one thing well. Judges do not get to see excellence in any area if there are too many different talent elements packed into a three-minute act.
